Steinway Alma Tadema is the most expensive grand pianos in the world that was sold in 1997 for $1.2 million at Christie's Auction House in London. The Alma Tadema Steinway grand piano was designed by British painter Sir Lawrence Alma Tadama in 1887 and recreated by Steinway & Sons a decade later. The Tadema is a special design of the D-274 grand piano built between 1884- 1887 as commissioned work for Henry Gurdon Marquand.
