Yamaha's industry-leading actions, keyboards and frames are manufactured to the most exacting standards using carefully selected materials.

For the soundboard, they use premium, grand piano-grade Bavarian spruce from Strunz in Germany. It is specially selected for its even, tight grain, which delivers a strong, consistent tone across the keyboard range. The use of five back posts throughout the range ensures optimum sound projection, while the hammers employed on the RD3 are of the same high quality as those used in the leading Conservatoire Series upright instruments. It is this uncompromising choice of materials, coupled with meticulous construction in the UK factory, that results in instruments of unrivalled longevity, tuning stability and rich, resonant tone.
